Description

Eunice D’Souza’s Reading

In the very heart of poetry land, Eunice D'Souza's collection of poems 'Learn from the Almond Leaf' was launched this evening by Poetrywala at Kitabkhana. So glad to have heard her recite, and as my camera did not cooperate, i have some word pictures here for you.

What i saw....

Professor of English
A lifetime of goodwill gathered around her
Serpentine queus, book in hand.

Autumn evening
Golden leaves gathered in a book,
Poetrywalas fill kitabkhana.

What i heard...

Inspiration is community
For her, and Father here knows,
The sound of reverence.

Rain filled porch
Wet puppy on doorstep,
A lifetime of affection.

Mother's ambivalence,
Difficult is normal
In all relationships

If you like what you just read, it is all thanks to an intense haiku & haibun workshop by Rochelle Potkar i attended recently, that's left a deep imprint on my mind. I also heard Kala Ramesh's haiku recently and it reinforced the new learning. The process is still firming itself, finding its bearings, testing ground....until then, you can say these short verses are inspired by haiku....
